Othermothers Announce “Official” Reunion Show

The Blind Tiger in Greensboro, Saturday June 20

Did you hear the one about the 80's rock band that got back together?

Greensboro's own OTHERMOTHERS have done just that. After 20 plus years of silence this raucous bunch of noisemakers is at it again, with a live performance at The Blind Tiger, (2115 Walker Ave, Greensboro, NC 27403) on Saturday June 20.

In the mid-80's The Othermothers proved to be one of the busiest alternative rock bands in North Carolina. In addition to constant East Coast touring, the band released the 45 single “Party Topics” b/w “Traveling In Circles,” (CHAD Records,Greensboro, NC, 1984). The Othermothers also released the EP No Place Like Home (SPIN 303, Making Waves, Ltd, London, England, 1985).

The band landed a spot on the “Comboland” compilation album, (Making Waves Ltd, SPIN 209, 1985), which featured (12) of the best then-current North Carolina bands.

A live performance of The Othermothers at The Brewery in Raleigh was featured on the BBC's “Old Grey Whistle Test” as well as on the “The John Peel Radio Show.”

The Othermothers shared the stage with such notable acts as The Replacements, The Gun Club, Alejandro Escovedo/True Believers and The Producers. Closer to home were: Nantucket, Fetchin Bones, Southern Culture on The Skids, Bad Checks, Flat Duo Jets, Don Dixon, The Right Profile, Kick The Future, The Connell's, Ben Folds/Majosha, The Accelerators, and The Graphic, etc.

The Othermothers were pleased to be voted Best Band in North Carolina by Spectator Magazine in 1984.

The original line-up is the same; Al Cowett – Lead vocals/Bass Guitar, Randall McCorquodale – Vocals/Lead guitar, Dan Cowett – Vocals Keyboards, Steve “Genghis” King – Vocals/Slammin Rhythm guitar, Tom Cowett – Vocals/Drums.

High energy, blistering rhythms coupled with experimental influences can best describe the music, although such titles such as Punk, Psychedelic, New Wave and Shoe Gaze have also been used.

Recently the band attempted to sneak in a “practice performance” as an opening act in April. Word of the show spread with little advertising, and the venue was quickly overwhelmed by the number and exuberance of fans.

The Blind Tiger performance is to be the first official “Reunion Show” and promises to be a barn-burner.

Don't miss it.
